The Temple of Heaven in China is also called the Altar of Heaven. Itis a multifaceted as well as complicated combination of religious andphilosophical traditions and concepts. The temple is situated in thesouth east part of Beijing. The temple in older days was visited by theMing and the Qing dynasties during annual ceremonies, especially forhaving a good harvest.Currently, the temple is one of the most popular places forexercise, as it has a huge park. The Temple of Heaven was constructedby King Yongle during the 1406 to 1420. It took a total time of 16years to build. King Yongle was also the one who made the entireForbidden City of China in Beijing. It however, got its name changedduring the 16th century when emperor Jiajing was the ruler.He also contributed significantly by building three more temples, which werecalled the Temple of Sun, The temple of Moon and the Temple of Earth.The Temple of Heaven was further renovated during the 18th century bythe King Qianlong. During the year 1914, the swearing ceremony of theYuan Shih Kai also took place in the Temple of Heaven. It was duringthis time that he declared himself as the Emperor of China. The templenow is a part of UNESCO, World Heritage Site. During the year 1998, thetemple was declared as the masterpiece in architecture and design inthe entire world’s civilization. | |
