| How to Master English Words
In spite of our sophisticatedtalents, we might have experienced few uneasy moments when it became the timefor rich vocabulary. But our communication skills highly bring the best of usto the fronts of our life. Our Word Power determines our level of success.Mastering English words is the first step to master communication skills. Thisguide is for speakers of English as a second language as well as native Englishspeakers who wish to increase their vocabulary skills.Steps
1. 1Determineyour present level of vocabulary. This is something you can do by takingfew Vocabulary tests which are available through a few websites. By takingthese tests, you will come to know your strengths and weaknesses in yourpresent level of vocabulary.
2. 2Buya few books to help your studies. Go to any good library or bookstore andfind a knowledgeable staff person. This person will be able to listen to youspeaking, and help determine the books that will help most.
3. 3Beginat your present level. If your level of vocabulary level is high, start atthe highest level where you recognize and understand every word put before you.
4. 4Preparea study schedule. Follow your schedule, even if it is only for 30 minutesper week, once a week. It's better if you can spend 10 minutes per day - dailyusage and practice will help fastest.
5. 5Subscribeto a website which sends A Word A Day to your Inbox. One such site isthrough Merriam-Webster, the dictionary company. You can find many others, aswell.
6. 6Sayeach word as you read it. This is very important. Make sure yourpronunciation is correct. There's nothing more embarrassing than trying toimpress people with your newfound language skills, only to find out that theword you were going for was pronounced "Fa-SEE-Shus," not"Fa-KET-EE-uss." (That's "facetious," by the way.)Pronouncing the words out loud will help them form naturally when you speakthem in front of others. It is especially important for non-native speakers todo this as English pronunciation of vowels and consonants often differs fromyour native language.
7. 7Writedown the definition, and then a few sentences using those words. This willhelp them stick in your head, along with the meaning as you write them down.Read your sentences aloud, making sure to pronounce carefully. There is alittle muscle memory at play here - forming the words correctly the first fewtimes will ensure that you always form them this same way. If you start sayinga word wrong, it's really hard to get your brain around the correct way later.
8. 8Repeatthe new words each day, adding one new word every day. As you feel sure youwill not forget word #1, drop it from the list, and continue.Tips

- Always try to use humor or funny ideas with new words. The funnier the better! It helps you remember the words easier. Example: "adhere" (meaning: "stick to, stay with") -- "The mouse was adhered to the cheese, because it was covered with Superglue."
