Saint Mark’s Basilica is a cathedral located in the city of Venice,Italy. It is one of the most beautiful cathedrals of the city and isfamous because of its uniqueness in terms of the wealth and themagnificent interior. This cathedral is a living example of theByzantine Architecture. The cathedral is situated on the St. MarksSquare. Long time back, it did not serve as a cathedral, in fact it wasa Chapel for the Venetian City and its rulers. Since eleventh centuryonwards, the cathedral was known by the nick name Church of God an inItalian “Chiesa d’Oro.”The entire cathedral of St. Mark has had arts men like the Europeansand the Italian, that is the reason it displays the beauty and designof both cultures. St. Mark’s Basilica is known for its artistic,iconographic as well as religious content. It has had a lot ofinteresting historical facts to it.The current Basilica was the third cathedral that was built on theplace so that Saint Mark’s body could be placed here. The entireBasilica is divided into 3 main segments, the lower, upper segment andthe domes. The interior of the cathedral depicts the Greek cross andevery arm is divided into 3 naves. The cathedrals is said to be amasterpiece of the Gothic sculpture and art. The entire top ceiling iscovered with beautiful mosaic colors of gold and bronze, giving it avery bright and lit effect.
